Big British Beauty Poll

Hey everyone!

As I always do, I was checking through the headlines this morning and came across one that I thought might interest all ye who adores beauty like I do!

The Daily Mail did a big survey on beauty and came across a few facts and figures which might shock and surprise you… or maybe not… ANYWAYS!

Let’s start with luxuries, like beauty treatments.

When asked: ‘If you ever needed to cut back on your beauty spending, which area would you cut back on first?’ 39% of women said body treatments would be first to go, 15 per cent said cut and colour, 15% cosmetics, while only 7 per cent were prepared to sacrifice anti-ageing products. Surprised? I was!

The anti ageing obsession in the UK has stemmed from seeing celebrities aged 40+ looking like their in their 20’s in magazines and on our television screens. When asked who are your beauty inspirations, women across the UK voted for women, who in the majority, are above the age of 40, such as Jennifer Aniston, Helen Mirren, Dita Von Teese, Kylie Minogue & Julia Roberts.

Despite the fact so many of us are determined to look youthful as we age, not so many of us are keen to spend the money to do so.  When asked ‘How much would you be prepared to spend on an anti wrinkle cream if you were convinced that it works?’ 79% of the readers answered with less than £30, and who can blame them? With the recession still firmly setting up camp in the UK, beauty products surely take a backseat when it comes to spending what little luxury budgets we have? Not Necessarily..If you think that you can buy a decent anti ageing product from L’oreal, or Nivea for less than a tenner, £30 is still quite extravagent.

To bulletpoint some of the statistics the survey came up with;-

  • 33% of readers are worried about fine lines and wrinkles
  • 32% are worried about skin tightness around the jaw
  • 29% said having flawless skin made them feel better about themselves
  • 19% feel better when they have a smokey eye
  • 29% of people said their instant anti ageing treatment is a cut and colour
  • 22% said teeth whitening was an instant anti ager.
  • 79% of you haven’t had plastic surgery
  • …but 63% of you would consider it

Finally, the survey asked what you would buy if you could only buy one beauty product, 35% said mascara, 31% said foundation and 11% said lipstick.

Well, the official results are in, but what would your answers be?
