FOUNDATIONS: NARS V RIMMEL

Let Battle Commence!

Hi everyone!

There's been a lot of talk in the blog-osphere about how similar NARS sheer glow foundation is to Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, so I thought I would battle it out between the two and let you know the differences and the similarities. I'm so good to you all!

So Im going to go through each element of the foundations and let you see the advantages of each!

Shades:  Rimmel has 11 shades available of the Match Perfection foundation. Each shade is different and some have pink tones, some have yellow tones.  I would say as a whole, people with pale skin are better catered to than those with darker skintones.  The lightest shade is very pink based and so looks a little bit flushed on your skin, whereas the lightest yellow toned foundation is 'Ivory' which is actually too dark for my skintone.

Nars Sheer Glow foundation has 19 shades available and caters equally to both light and dark skintones.  The lightest shade is called Siberia (which is my shade) and has the perfect mixture of both yellow and pink tones, but if you prefer a specific undertone - Nars have those options available.  In terms of shades or colour match, Nars wins this one hands down.

Application:  I apply the Rimmel foundation with a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and it blends brilliantly, whereas I apply the Nars one with my fingertips to get a more high definition result as I find it hard to apply evenly with a brush. Rimmel wins this one!

Coverage:  The Match Pefection has a light to medium coverage and is very buildable. You could layer this up as much or as little as you prefer.  Sheer Glow again, is a buildable foundation but the coverage on this is slightly more than the Rimmel one.  You can build this up to a full coverage but I would describe this as having a medium coverage.  For me, Nars wins this one, but it all depends on what kind of coverage you prefer! Its a personal preference.

Finish: Both foundations have a glowy finish without looking oily. In fact, put side by side you might not be able to tell the finish of the two apart. Both look dewy and can be mattified in oily areas with a setting powder if you prefer.

Result: Both are incredibly similar, but I prefer Nars Sheer Glow because I prefer the packaging and the coverage I get from this HOOOOWEEEEVER! Priced at £28.50, its a lot more expensive than the very similar Rimmel Match Perfection foundation, priced at £7.99.

Which one do you prefer?
